Default Not detecting hardware

I am in 8.0.4 because 8.0.5 is causing problems I documented in another thread. http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=296708 Main thing is -- I had MBox 3 Mini and ProTools LE 8.0.4 running perfectly on my Intel i7 Core Window 7 with 12 Gigs Ram (after a fair among to problem solving and thread-reading.)

[Inserting update here -- the MBox is not appearing in the device manager or in the sound control panel. The Avid MBox Mini CP says "Hardware Not Connected." Might make all the rest of this post irrelevant? Does my box need to be returned? The blue light is ON. The USB plug into the MBox seems a little funny like I see more of the white than I would expect, but it doesn't push in any farther.]

Moving on ... I made the mistake of unplugging my MBox 3 Mini when the PC was off because MBox was getting a tad hot (nothing critical) and I was waiting for my amp to get fixed. Who knew I would be causing myself a problem?

Now when I try to run ProTools LE it says it cannot detect the hardware.

I uninstalled from the CD and reinstalled following all onscreen directions.

Tested ProTools: same problem.

I installed the only MBox Mini driver I could find: http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...p?DocId=379411 ... btw please don't tell me to upgrade LE to 8.0.5 because that causes equally unsolvable (by me) issues. I can share them if it a critical path that gets me to making music.

Tested ProTools: same problem.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling a variety of ways suggested on different threads (order of turning off and on PC, plugging and unplugging MBox, etc. Nothing works.

My question -- some threads say uninstall and reinstall drivers (plural). I cannot find where all the drivers are, the only one I can find is the one above, the MBox Mini driver. If that is what I am supposed to do, where are these other drivers? I do not want to remove drivers and not be able to replace them, or I'm backing to uninstalling/reinstalling the entire program. I've done that 3 times so for.

Or is there some other solution?

I have spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to get this hardware to work and zero time creating music. This reminds me of the old days of Windows 3.1 where I feel more like a bug-tester than a user. Can anyone help me get on with making some tunes?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Are you running Pro Tools as Administrator? You should always do that on Vista and Win7. Right-click on the PT icon and select Properties, then Compatibility(I think) and find the checkbox for "Always run as admin."

Just to clarify he means the program is running as Administrator not that you are logged on with an Administrator account.

That point can be a little confusing.

albee1952 and SKI

Yes, right click and ran as administrator, my Pro Tools icon now has a little shield on it.

Thanks for inquiring as to the details on that.

I just loaded Pro Tools and the hardware on an old XP laptop we had, not a conclusive test to be sure, but the same problem: in the MBox Mini control panel it says "Hardware Not Connected" (which it is of course physically via USB) & no action in the Device Manager either.

I appreciate the help -- if anyone who wants to take a glance at my Sandra and see if anything seems out of line with my hardware rig, there it is, at the top of this thread.

Steve

You also have to install as admin.
Did you install it as admin? If you do not do this it will often not install properly. It will appear to be installed but you'll end up with problems like the one you're talking about.

Hi TiKkO

Yes I just now tried installing 2 ways, first using trouble shoot compatibility (Win XP SP2) then I uninstalled (since that did not work) and reinstalled as Admin.

Each time after the new install I tried running compatibility and then also as Admin.

After that, I uninstalled and reinstalled the MBox Min driver ... still no go.

Having tried it on two systems and having it not show up in Device Manager might tend to indicate a bad USB cable or interface.

Yes I tend to agree. I didn't think it was conclusive at first, because of the age of the laptop, but it probably is.

Not sure whether to send this back to Amazon (it isn't registered yet) or look into how Digidesign handles this sort of problem ... if I register it I doubt I can send it back to Amazon and get money back ... if I get Digidesign I involved I might be putting more time into more issues ... don't know how that might go.

I wonder if I have a similar cable somewhere ... swapping cables could be asking for trouble(?) ... don't know. Cables, returning ... suggestions?

Hobo Wan

Hey, had a USB cable that was the same only longer and tried it ... shut down machine, plugged it in, restarted ... my little heart went a-flutter in anticipation ... and then ... checking the MBox Mini CP ... "Hardware Not Connected" ...

Slowly ... reluctantly ... putting MBox 3 Mini in the box to return ...
