Default Version of Protools for MBox and MacBook Pro?

Hi!

I just got an original MBox today.

I have a MacBook Pro (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) running Mac OS X 10.5.8.

I'm wondering which version of Protools I need to install?

I tried checking the Digidesign website, but all the information there seemed a little complicated.

If anyone is able to help me out, I would sincerely appreciate it! (I need to have the program working for a new work position)

Thank you very much!

Cheers,

Sara

Hi Sara,

It is a bit daunting when you're just getting into Pro Tools, I agree.

The answer is for OS version 10.5.8 you need v 8.0 or 8.0.1 (install 8.0.1 as it'll have a few bug fixes from 8.0).
You won't be able to go a newer OS (Snow Leopard), the original mbox isn't supported and it looks like you won't be able to ever go to a newer version of Pro Tools either. But hey, if it does the job, who cares!

To get this info in the future just click on the link "Pro Tools Compatibility Grids" from the bunch of links at the top of your screen when you're in the DUC and then choose "Pro Tools LE for Mac OS X Compatibility Grid".

Here's the direct link: http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/self...p?DocId=353149

Cheers,

Simon

Thank you very much Simon, I appreciate that you took the time to write me back, and for all of your assistance!

Do you know if there is a version of Protools 8 that I can download on the net?

You can purchase either the downloadable version or shippable box:
Pro Tools LE 8 (Upgrade)

Or you can purchase from an Avid dealer:
Find a Reseller
