As I said and apparently you missed it - I want to stay away from anything that uses the Kontakt engine. I've got my reasons for that that are not germane to the discussion at hand.

East West Pianos are pretty amazing.

Fair enough, but 8dio launched the standalone Soundpaint engine/app/sampler last year. So, not everything at 8dio is all Kontakt anymore (although the Soundpaint offerings still aren't as robust)

Careful massivekerry, you're starting to get germane to the discussion.

I know and EW are another developer I'm staying away from. Multiple reasons - I'm right on the hairy edge of having their wares running on my system. I'm stuck on a way older version of the Play engine because of my OSX version - 10.13.6. Second is lack of support since they closed down their forums in favor of Facebook; I don't to FB. And I've never had good luck with their regular tech support.

Yeah it is, but it doesn't really bother me. If I were a keyboardist I'm sure I'd have a high-end controller, but it's fine for my purposes.

The Garritan piano has pedal noises which is kind of cool, sometimes not so much but you can mix it low.

Current favorite by far is one of the pianos inside Sample Tank 4.
Ravenscroft and Alicias Keys are also nice.

Pianoteq keeps getting better with each version.

I'll probably be the outlier here, but I really like the Grand Rhapsody Pianofrom Waves. I think it sounds great, and the multiple mic options give a good variety of ways to nuance the sound. Plus has some decent onboard effects, if you wish.

I use this the most often when I want piano. At least consider it.

I can't consider it. I don't have a Metal compatible video card and I'm also running an OSX that's too old for anything from Waves current catalog.
