Recording audio and playing out video

Hi,
I'm going to have a non-standard recording session next week where I'll have to record an ensemble while outputting click and video for them to watch.

Is it possible to import a QT file and have it play back while recording out from the regular miniDisplayPort?
Do I need to get the videos in a certain codec and framerate?

when you import the video, as a QT , it'll show up on a window, and on the timeline.....hopefully they gave you the right frame rate sample rate etc...you can out put that on another monitor via the displayport, i do that now, with my imac, i have an adaptor to DVI cable....

Try and get the vision in a format that is not too processor intensive on the computer. ProRes would be a good one for example.
Codecs like H.264 can bog your system down.
