Default Sonnet Echo Express III-R Thunderbolt PCIe Expansion Chassis

http://www.sonnettech.com/product/echoexpressiii.html

It´s not qualified by AVID, because it´s not available yet, but I wonder if any other Sonnet Chassis are qualified or if it´s only Magma?

would love to get this instead of a sonnet because its rackmount and Thunderbolt 2.

Any ideas anyone?

I gues we´ll see if the chassis and the black Mac Pros are available, but just thought I give it a shot here...

Cheers!

Hi Andi,

I'm really "close" to the Sonnet guys about their development of this product, as I spoke with them about the really NEEDS and the Pros of that product in comparison to the Magma Stuff...

The idea of combining a RackSolution with additional HDs (which were in old days IN the Mac - SampleLibraries etc), for example a FireWire Card, to get the other HDs connected, and of course HDX or HDN Cards seems to be a good way to be successful...and a professional solution in the new MacPro World...;-)

But the most important thing, and that's what they really want to do, is to keep it as quiet as possible... If you have a silent "silver" MacPro as reference..., it should be fine for a lot of us...;-), of course not for all...;-))

AND: They search the contact to the users, answer questions, but are also open to the ideas..Good Guys!!!

Looking forward to it and keeping the contact to them...

Best

Chris

Hi James,

they updated their site just some days before:
http://www.sonnettech.com/product/echoexpressiii.html

Under "configuration ideas" there's a more detailed description...

But as they said, they are really working on it, to get real facts on the surface and not just rumors etc...

Yes, it looks really interesting, especially, when I got the impression, they listen to the words of pro-users and search the contact...

Can you use this for HD TDM Cards?

Well, as it is not out for the moment, I'm not sure, but why not, when the cards fit well in the PCIe Slots...

But as always, I think, it's worth to wait, before discussing rumors...When I contact them, I'll ask...

It is just for half length cards. HDX cards don´t fit.
