Default Holy Deafening White Noise!!!!

So, i've been dealing with this ever since updating to Leopard. I updated before a compatible version of PT was released, so at first I attributed it to that. I have since upgraded to the latest versions of OSX & PT, and still I am haunted by this glitch. What happens: I will be working on a session, then all of a sudden during playback the audio will get VERY distorted for a split second, then just start blasting white noise at full volume. It came through my headphones so loud last night that it woke my friend up who was asleep on the other side of the room. The noise only continues if PT is trying to play back audio. If I stop the transport, the white noise goes silent, but if I try to play again, I get blasted. The only way to fix it (temporarily) is to quit PT & re-open the session. Then it's all good for about 10 minutes, then all hell breaks loose again. Currently running 7.4.2 on 10.5.4. Powerbook G4, 1.67 GHz, original M-Box.

Have you guys both applied the v22 firmware update released last year? You can check which version you are running buy looking under the system profiler > USB when the Mbox is plugged in.

Cheers

This has many possible causes. Have you tried trashing prefs yet? Are all your plug-ins up to date? Does it happen when using a different drive for recording/playback (many of these issues have been traced to bad drive format or a drive that's failing..). Have you done all the standard troubleshooting like making sure wireless is disabled, FW networking is off and all other optimizations are done? Do you have any 3rd party apps/services running in the background?

I had the same problem from Native Instruments Plug-ins, which currently don't work in 10.5 with Pro Tools. Full code white noise.
