Hi!
I have some guitar notes that are a bit too long. I want the notes to fade out earlier. With the selector tool I highlight part of the note, then right click, then separate. Then command+f. Now two things happen: Iīm having a crossfade or nothing! The manual says: 1 Select the end of the region that you want to fade out. The selection must extend to the exact end of the region or a blank area after the region in the track Hmmm! I believe I have. The selection I just created canīt be more exact. Or can it? Well, randomly I can do this operation, but randomly is not satisfying. JanD |

The mistake you are making is that you are seperating the file - you don't need to do that part, and actually by doing it you're creating a situation that calls for a crossfade instead of a regular fade. Just click where you want the fade to start in the region and select to the end of the region and create your fade with command-f, no need to seperate the file first.

Iīm sorry to be back.
It didnīt quite solve my problem. If you do a fade at an end of a region, you donīt have to separate. No prob. But I want to do several fades inside a region. Therefore I have to separate, to create new regions? If I just select and press command f, nothing happens. JanD |

You could automate the volume within the region. Alternatively, cut unwanted sections from the region (thereby creating a series of new regions) and use fade outs and in's at the new region boundaries.

Thanks Phil, thatīs a a workaround.
As far as I can see, basic problem is that PT does not separate at zero crossings, and therefore prompts for a crossfade. If I do a separation, it has to have a small gap to the rest of the region, in order to make a fade out. After all, I think making volume curves is a bit easier. JanD |
