I use Windows Defender as my AV. Recently some Security Definition Updates have borked Pro Tools. Not every one, maybe every third one or so over a number of days. Pro Tools starts, then just sits there until finally the "Not Responding" notice appears. Fortunately, I have backups and just revert to those, and Pro Tools opens again. Anyone else experiencing this? If so, what have you done to stop this or what other AV that is light on resources and doesn't affect Pro Tools are you using?

Have you tried excluding Pro Tools processes from Defender? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...6-c2820032b65e
Add C:\Program Files\Avid\Pro Tools\ProTools.exe. I also added my interface UI applications and other audio apps (Melodyne, Amplitube etc.)

Joel, thanks for the reply.
I excluded Pro Tools from any Virus Scans sometime ago. This is happening with just updating the AV definitions, not with a scan. Going to try to see if this happens with an AV definition update or a Windows Update.

Same here. Any reason you are avoiding Win 11? Microsoft(accoring to my research) has dropped the absolute requirement for the TPS(or whatever its called) and I have Win11 running great on a few "out-dated" machines including my main PT machine(HPZ4 G4 workstation) and a recently sold backup system that was a socket 1366 i7! If you do decide to take the plunge, don't update what you have. Pull that system drive and start fresh on a new SSD.

However... in my case ... I had a nicely running Win 10 rig with all devices, plugs, and other apps sorted out and up-to-date. I stored away a current Win 10 image backup (I use Macrium Reflect free version), and then tried an in-place upgrade ![]()

Given that my Pro Tools computer is 13 years old and I've budgeted an upgrade, I'm just going to wait for my new custom desktop to go to Windows 11. If something changes, I'll probably upgrade.
