any ways to soak up reverb in live dialogue tracks?
We have some scenes recorded in reverberant rooms. The dialogue is almost recoverable but unfortunately there's a little too much reverb in the room. Any plugins that might help soak u reverb decay? I've tried gating but it didn't really work. I used waves x-noise and it was very helpful in drying up the room air, but the reverb is still there. Is there any way to quell the ghastly menace of reverb?

John,
There are a few devices that might help you. Try the waves C4 and adjust the lower Bands below 1K. There is a preset that emulates a Dolby Cat 43 card, or try an analog Dolby Cat 43. You can also try the new Cedar Box the 1000 or Cedar for Pro Tools . Good Luck

You'll probably have better luck with an Expander than a full Gate...

If its a real room, the reverberation will probably ring at certain frequencies. Try to find those first, and then use multiband compression.

multiband comp to suppress resonances, then expander...might be helpful to duplicate the track and set up a bandpass filter around 1k with a narrow Q (like 5-6) and key the expander off of that.
