Default connect mbox 2 and mixer basic questions

hi, i use the mbox 2 and want some more inputs. i dont need to record more than two inputs at a time, as thats not possible with the mbox. but i have two keyboards, 2 guitars and 1 bass. so i would basically want to connect all this to a mixer thru my mbox and into pro tools, so i dont need to repatch all the time.

would this work? could i connect it to any analog mixer?
thanks:)

We would need to know which specific mixer to give any kind of accurate advice.

As a general overview:
  • Connect the stereo output of the mixer to the MBox 2 line inputs with balanced cables.
  • connect your devices to the mixer's inputs.
That's... pretty much it.

When you record, you will need to use the proper tracks and settings for each instrument. Synths are usually stereo tracks, and would record from both inputs. Guitars/Bass are usually mono (unless you're using effects boxes/amp modelers pre-recording), and would be panned on the mixer so that audio was only coming out of one side of the L/R Mix, then the mono track in Pro Tools would be set to that single input.

Also keep in mind that EVERYTHING coming out of the mixer is going to be recorded, so it's a good idea to mute anything else that isn't being recorded at the time.

Was thinking about getting the Behringer XENYX 2442FX mixer. with 10 mono inputs and 4 stereo, would that be enough for like 1 keyboard, 1 mic, 2 guitars and a bass? :) i think so, but i just need to get it confirmed :)

Yes. And as luck would have it, I actually own one of them (XENYX 2442FX). I use it for live sound applications.

But that's really going to be overkill for what you want to do. Something like the Xenyx 802 would do the same job much cheaper with the same quality.
