Default Waves V9

So with Waves version 9 no need for iLok anymore? I guess it's good news, depending on how you look at it!

Surprising lack of information on their site, so far. I still know more about it from the Gearslutz posts at the NAMM show.

Doesn't really matter much for Pro Tools users, since anyone with PT9 or later is guaranteed to have an iLok.

Concept is good; however, I wish iLok would function this way, instead of a propitiatory system developed by WAVES.

This is bad. Now you need your iLok and either to activate your waves plug in online or you need to have a separate USB thumb drive plugged in to use waves plugins with your pro tools rig. Oh and they just got us all to spend some cash on one of them new fancy iLoks. iLok has been doing a [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep] job of protecting waves so... eh i see why they would want to spend less money on something that just doesn't work that well. In any case we the consumer loose. Inconvenience without limits v9.

also no mention of the nls summing plugs..

Accent on 64-bit, faster loading, and different authorization....

You don't need to use any kind of dongle to authorize Version 9 if you don't want to. You can simply authorize your hard drive. If you need to work elsewhere you simply put your auth's back onto the cloud and download them to the hard drive that is on the remote system that you are working on. There is no danger of ever losing your auth's and that is, IMHO, way better than being a prisoner of iLok where there is no consideration for lost auth's whatsoever.

I think this new system is great...and I can see hopefully most companies going with a similar scheme...one of the biggest pluses of the new Waves system is that you are covered if your ilok authorizations get lost or stolen.
