Doable but an i7 quad core would be way better. Unfortunately you can no longer buy new a Mini with an i7 cpu. And get as much ram as you can afford as you can't add it later.

New Macs are supposed to drop this Thursday 10/27, so I would wait and see what new CPUs become available. It's likely that there will be several new models announced. Hopefully you can wait, if you want to buy new.

Just my 2 cents, but I would be looking at a refurbed 27" iMac with an i7 quad and maxed out RAM. Next would be a 2012 Mini, again with i7 quad and maxed RAM. Laptops have small screens(which stinks for any DAW) so avoid the 13" completely(unless you hate to see anything). I would skip laptops unless you just GOTTA be portable(but a decent Pelican can make an iMac pretty easy to travel with).
