Default Transfer of Ownership - Software Rights

I am downsizing to an Mbox I, Mbox Micro for PT LE and an M-Audio Fast Track USB Mk II with PT Essential. For purposes of songwriting, it just helps me stay focused to keep the gear minimal.

I am selling my whole project studio that includes a Digi 002 Rack. I think I paid for PT LE 7.3 when I bought the Digi Rack on clearance from GC because it only came with 6.4.

I later bought the Mbox Micro specifically because it came with PT LE 7.4 and the free upgrade to PT LE 8. I don't really find that much use for the Micro with my workflow.

I am running PT LE 8 with the gear I am keeping and I was going to give the 7.3 disk to the guy buying all of the project studio gear.

Here is my ethical question, Digi please chime in here, I don't want to do anything wrong.

Can I legally give this guy the PT LE 7.4 disk with the associated Authorization Code with the Digi 002Rack instead of the 7.3 disk to give him the free upgrade to version 8, or does he just need to pay to the $149 to download or get the disk for PT LE 8? He is running Snow Leopard, so the 7.3 version won't get him anywhere.

Thanks,
Bill

From a Karma standpoint it makes sense to give him the disk that gets him to Snow Leopard. If you're not Karmically inclined, then give him the disk that will get him to Snow Leopard. This isn't so much an ethical question as just a common sense one - Digi will exact their pound of flesh from this guy in due time (as they have with all us).
hope that helps,
nz

As a second hand buyer, he won't be entitled to a free upgrade from 7.4, especially since you already used it.

You can give him the 7.3 or 7.4 software as a courtesy, but he really doesn't need it, because he'll have to buy PT8 anyway, and it's a full install program which means he won't need to already have an older version installed on his computer to use it.

One thing you'll want to do is fill out the Digi transfer of ownership form and give it to him. This is for the 002 hardware only, and will allow him to trade up to any future Digi hardware (like the current HD tradeup program, for example).

Yeah, I filled out the paperwork, all ready for him to go. Transfer of ownership - One of the many things I love about Digi and one of the many reasons I abandoned Cakewalk
