Is there any way to find the sample rate of a PT session without actually having to open the session? I know it is a stupid question but I just got a Saffire 56 and from what I have read, you need to set the sample rate inside the mix control before you open PT or you get an error if the sample rates are off..I have lots of old sessions recorded at different SR's and have no clue what to set the mix control at...I set it to 96, open an old session and I get an error because it may have been done at 88..this is the only problem I am seeing with this safire 56, I wish it would just set itself to whatever the session is at! Thanks for reading my rant...ant help is appreciated!!

I'm not sure of a way to do it without launching PT, but once you do launch PT, you can check the SR of a session without opening a session by looking in the Workspace.

PT9 should open without hardware. Can't you just leave the FR hardware not on or connected and then go open a bunch of sessions using aggregate device or whatever....jot down all the SR's of the sessions you might revisit and then close out PT and reopen with your hardware set the way you want?
I mean I don't know.....just throwing out a suggestion.

If you open PT first... there shouldn't be a samplerate issue until a session is opened, since that determines the samplerate.
So as plastikman suggested, you should have no problems checking out the samplerate of the session before opening it and avoiding the error.

Install MediaInfo and check the sampling rate of the media in the session before opening Pro Tools. There's a version to run on every major OS.

True, but it would help the OP. All he would have to do is right mouse click an audio file and select MediaInfo. In there he'll be able to see the sample rate.

If you have another session open, then you can import data from the session you're trying to determine the sample rate of. A window will open that shows various data about the session you're importing from, including the sample rate. Once you find out what you need, you can cancel the import.

Go to the workspace-browser and look at the info for a given session file.
