is there a way to have the computer's audio from itunes, websites, mac's cd player etc come through the 002, without patching a separate cable from the headphone jack? currently it only comes through the computers speakers, not thru the mains.

You need to install Digi Core Audio if you haven't, and set your sound output to the 002 in System Preferences> Sound

It should be on your install disk. If not you can get it in the downloads section of the Digi site. Link above.
