Default Pre/post send switch automation

Can someone tell how far along the conversation got with regard to automating the pre/post switch on aux sends? I'm finding it increasingly limiting to do a workaround for something that was so easy to do in the days of analogue consoles!!

I've never heard of anyone needing this, As you can automate the send level at will, why not simply use pre-fade sends and automate as needed?

I am genuinely curious: what analog console(s) have you used that have fully automated pre/post aux send switches? Having worked for years on SSLs/Neves I don't recall ever seeing that.

Digital consoles allowed it and it's really nice. That and automatable routing.

I used to request it for PT but I think it would screw up with the delay compensation and that's why it's not possible. So we're stuck deciding ahead of time if we want a send to be Pre.

I have occasionally doubled-up a row of sends, pre and post to the same aux so I could control this better, but it's a kludge. FWIW.

Euphonix CS consoles could do that if I remember correctly. SSL/Neve I've never seen that.

Key word here was analog. We physically punched the pre/post switch when needed. And no in my experience (44 years!) there were no consoles that automated pre/post switches.

Yes, Harrison MPC could do it. It was Digital and it was Automated. Yes, I have seen it in my 44 years of Mixing. My mixing Partner Greg Watkins is always asking for it in Pro Tools. It would be handy.

Thank you Marti. I stand corrected, happily!! Yup it would come in really handy, esp for off screen dx.

+1 for an automateable pre/post switch.
It would make things so much easier and it's a tiny change surely?
