Default Virtual PC the solution for Windows 7 64 bit Protools?

Have any Windows 7 64 bit people tried this solution to the problem of PT 8 not running in 64 bit?

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...indows-xp-mode

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/vir...t-started.aspx

If this works. I'll be happy until Digidesign comes out with 64 bit Windows 7 drivers.

Don't know yet. I'll get back to you in a few weeks when I have a build that supports virtualization. I've wanted to try, just for fun. Also, I highly doubt it'll work well :< Just a feeling. And it certainly won't work for firewire digis since the data still has to go through W7s firewire drivers before reaching the virtual OS's virtualized drivers.

I use the virtual XP for attaching my printer that doesn't work on Win 7 64. So you can load noncompatible drivers in the virtual system if you mount the device exclusively. The thing is though, that you cannot directly communicate with the devices that are fully mounted to the virtual OS.
For me that means that if I do have to print something (I don't do all to much at home), that I have to bounce it to PDF and then open and print that from the virtual machine.

I doubt that it would be possible to do anything cross OS with drivers. On the other hand I also doubt that the virtualized system has enough power to be feasible in recording...

Feel free to try it out, but I am quite certain that the virtualized system is just not strong enough for high performance apps.

Any updates? Has anyone been able to make it work? I have Windows 7 64-bit, and want to know if installing 32-bit Windows XP as a virtual machine will let me run Pro Tools.

Well I've been runnig a firewire interface with W7 64bit (not virtual XP) pretty much around the clock for days now on the test machine, It took a few hardware changes and tweaks but it can be done.

Both 8 and 8.0.3 have worked fine for me on W7 64bit with no issues or tweaks needed.

USB interfaces have been a lot less problematic than FireWire interfaces.

Cheers,

Firewire will not work in virtual xp mode at all. Just so it's known.
and when using my M-audio mobile pre the control panel would not work correctly.
IDK about M-box

also, I have been using 8 with great success with a Pro fire 2626, (Sorry I know this is a LE forum) until very recently ( I think it's an Eleven thing) Rack and LE
that's when the problems started for me, Sfter the Eleven Rack update to 8.0.3 and after I installed the Eleven LE Trial.

Just my 2 cents
