PT only works on one USB port on new 15" Macbook Pro
Was having a major PT issue and figured out the problem after troubleshooting.
PT hangs on startup when i use the USB slot closest to the macbooks screen but runs perfect when i use the one beside it. Every other USB device runs fine on either USB port. Anyone have this problem or know a explanation? Very strange as PT is the only thing i installed on a fresh machine Tech Specs: OSX 10.6.3 2.66 GHZ Intel Core i7 4gb 1067 Mhz DDR Running Pro Tools 8.0.3sc2 Thanks! |

Re: PT only works on one USB port on new 15" Macbook Pro
It appears the new MacBook/MacBook Pros share some services, like bluetooth, with certain USB port controllers. Using a shared port causes problems - that seems to be the case as far as we can tell at this point.
We've seen this in the past with previous generation MacBook Pros, MacBooks and Powerbooks - the bus design for USB ports can vary from generation to generation. Since audio is high bandwidth and needs low-latency communication (meaning no interrupts in the USB data stream), the shared ports most likely have data or other interrupts happening, causing problems with your audio interface. |

Just had that problem tonight. Works fine in USB furthest from screen.

Same for me, my new MBP USB closer to the screen make my Mbox hang, and the
other USB work perfectly. |

Re: PT only works on one USB port on new 15" Macbook Pro
I got a new 17" i7 last week and couldn't get it to work on any USB ports. I had to go and get a MBox Pro.
I have to say once I got every thing going. Pro Tools runs flawless. I also have a HD system and I can now run a fully mixed HD session on this new 2.66 i7 laptop with LE. With no Buffer issues. I also have it powering a 24" apple monitor. I feel for the first time you can do some real work on a laptop |
