Default Session compatibility?

Can a session that was created in Windows using 6.1 be opened on a Mac system that is running 5.3?

If you save it as Mac/PC compatible.. then yes.

Does he have to specify "in PT5" format, as well ?

No - all sessions 5.1.1 and later have the same format.
