Default floating movies latency

I use two VGA monitors in my G4. One just for a full size quicktime floating movie. And the other for Pro Tools tracks.
Is there any latency in the video?
Thanks!

Yes but it´s different on every system. It´s been covered about a thousand times here. Please search the DUC for "Syncheck" and check out syncheck.com

wait, he is asking about latency when using a computer monitor to display the QT. I understand (or misunderstand) that the latency is caused by the DA in the firewire converter, and therefor, when displaying the digital vid on a computer monitor, there is no delay.

There is. Check out syncheck.com and read the article about monitor-delay.

the article indicates that there can be a delay in a floating window on lcd screens, but i don't think there is one if your second monitor is a CRT (as mine is)... That is I don't believe the delay is coming through the DVI connection but rather through the LCD screen itself...

What ever is the cause for this. There is a delay and that´s why there is the QT-offset setting in PT.

Not only there is a delay going through a firewire bridge to video, but there's also a slip in Quicktime, that makes the video start up to one frame in each direction from the centerline, and this slip is different everytime you hit play. At least that's true of 10.3.x/QT6.

That means that you can have a 20 quarterframe dv offset, but sometimes you'll really have 16 qframes, other times 24 qframes, and others 18 qframes, etc.

Measured with Syncheck, in a Mirovideo DC30+ (squared5 driver), a Miranda DV Bridge, and a Canopus DVC100. Apart from the different DV offsets, the quicktime slip is always there and is always unpredictable.

Yep. I only use QT as a reference when re-conforming different versions and for the markers in the video-universe. For real sync reference I use a reliable player.
