Default comments on the mix?

This is a link to a cover tune that my band does. Long time lurking first time posting here.

I'm interested in any comments, especially those on the mix balance. I have a hard time gettting the vocals to "sit" right in the mix for my tastes.

Anyway thanks for any input.

PT7.3LE
drums - EZ Drummer
bass, organ - XPand
guitar - my strat and a Boss GT8
Vocalist - Kristin Kay
DVerb, PT 7 band EQ ( a little boost at 5K for her vocals), PT compressor on the vocals

I'm no expert, so take it only as one man's opinion. Sounds like you're close but you're right - it doesn't quite have the total thing going on. Here's what I would try, if you still have the tracks available:
  • Something seems awry in the reverb dept. Maybe too much, maybe too much early reflections. Or it may be the room you are recording in coming through. Try going back to dry, mix it, and only after that sneek up the reverb until you just hear it then back it off a notch. To me, this type of tune could play well pretty dry, but again it depends on the artistic intent.
  • If a more commercial sound is what you desire, I would try more compression/limiting on the vocal. This would even it out some and give it a harder drive. Overly-compressed vocals are all the rage nowadays, for better or worse. But like the reverb, if you're obviously hearing it's effect then you probably need to back it off.
Just a couple of things to try. Keep going, you're almost there!

Have not posted on here in awhile. Have a few new ones up and a fun little "warmup session" video that I sync'd up to the tracking. Band needs to break in their drummer so they wanted a rough live set. Found the camera, started filming and now it is all over.

If the player does not show up, refresh (it will) and then shut it off. Have not figured out how to make it NOT play just yet. Or, check the blog.

Fun band...

This is my very first mix ever... I'm a noob but here it is:

http://www.thebuffalochips.com/pault/

Draft 2 is ok.. I'm still lost on creating the perfect mix with the vocals (it cuts at one point due to some mic problems that didn't show up till later).. opinions and harsh critiques are welcome!

BTW this isn't me... it's one of my friends who is letting me record him remotely.
