Good afternoon,
I'm using a new Windows 10 laptop with my ProTools 2018.4.0. I'm buying new Windows 10 computers for the business, and I'll have some decent Windows 7 machines sitting around that have 16 gig RAM, which for me, has been enough for my musical pursuits. They're Intel chips in the Windows 7 outfits but I can't tell you which one. My question is does anyone have thoughts on taking a Windows 7 machine, and updating the OS to Windows 10, rather than buying a new computer? I've heard the upgrade did not have all the security bells and whistles built into it that a new Windows 10 computer has, but I don't know if that's so important.. Thanks |

I think it will be fine, but I would cover my ASSets by picking one computer, replace the hard drive with a fresh SSD and load up Windows 10. If all goes well, the old drive could go in a drive case for backups(or other uses) and you know it works. If it goes sour, stick the old drive back in and the old PC works as it did before

I did this recently, and it works. I recommend clean-install VS in-place-upgrade. Take your time & save boot-drive-images as you go through the process. Worth it.

I had no problems upgrading from 8.1 to 10.

OK then.. Seems with your insights I can proceed when the time comes, and know I won't take out the electrical grid along the West Coast if I mess up... Thanks for all the info.
