Default Mbox 2 Pro driver (8.0.3.250) for Win7x64 Ultimate crapping out for general audio

I know, I know, I know...but I choose to use PTLE on a multipurpose machine. Don't even ask me for a friggin Sandra report, but it's a P5Q SE2/Q9400/4GB RAM/separate OS and Audio WD black drives, approved FW chip, etc. I'm using the DigiDesign/Avid driver for general non PT audio playback. It craps out all the time (no audio, iTunes/WMP/etc won't play, interweb vids don't play, etc.).

I restart the Win7 Audio service and everything comes back instantly. I'm just curious if I can eliminate this step. I have to recycle the service a couple of times every day. I know I'm on a beta driver...just looking for a solution from the smart folks.

1. Wasn't designed for "general audio".....it's a Pro Tools INTERFACE, and PT interfaces haven't worked with I-tunes for YEARS. Use your on-board sound card for all the non-PT stuff.
2. BETA is the operative word here, and the end-user is the one that gets to uncover all the bugs. Seems like you found a few!
3. Not to be pointed, but typically no friggin Sandra report = no friggin solutions. But I would still default to #1 on this one.

As expected...

1) Digi provides an all purpose driver...but I shouldn't use it with anything other than Digi s/w.
2) I'm cool with bugs
3) This is why I love this place...

My question was if I could eliminate the recycle step. If you can't offer any advice then don't. I just love how toxic this community has become.

It's still a BETA all-purpose driver which means it may or may not work.
Gave ya the best advice I knew of, but sorry for trying to help. I'm friggin outta here.

Alan - my point is that your response was simply "don't use it that way". Folks around here (not just you) have the hardest time realizing that PTLE WAS sold to hobbiest types via extremely aggressive marketing tactics. Don't tell me I shouldn't use a product the way the creator explicitly intended (Avid shouldn't provide a general purpose driver otherwise).

Anybody else care to posit a solution? Or, should I just go back and crawl under my rock?
