Default Hooking up a Dolby DMU

We have a DMU that we are using in our Machine Room. It is only digital i/o. When hooked up to a 192 DDigital i/o, everything is fine. When hooked up to a 192 analogue out of the aes ports, I get clicking. Obviously clocking of some sort. Have tried clocking to DMU wordclock out, same video reference DMU is getting, and even internal > No luck. If I go to a DA-88 with an IF-88, with the PT files, then from the IF--88 to the DMU inputs no problem.. HELP!!!!!!

i am not sure i understand your post. the DMU is only digital. "when you hook up the 192 analogue out of the AES Ports"? what does that mean? you mean the 192 analogue out to the AES ins of the DMU? clocking to DMU to the wordclock out? of what?

you should, clock the DMU and the 192 to the same video reference. do you have a sync i/o? you will need one. feed the video sync reference to the sync i/o and loop sync the 192. take another feed off that same video reference and put it into the DMU. feed the AES signal out of the 192 into the DMU.

also, in the future, post this in the Post & Surround Forum, since this question about print mastering is specific to that field and more post engineers visit that forum.

I think he means he has 2 192 interfaces, one is only a digital 192 and that one works allright with the DMU.

The regular 192 which has digital i/o as well causes clicks with the DMU.

It took me also a second read to understand. Offcourse this doesn't solve the matter, but maybe someone else can offer him some help now.

Hi, have you hooked up the DMU's Sync reference ( the BNC cable on the back of the DMU )?
You need to clock the DMU via the SYNC bnc cable not AES.. For the life of me I can't remember if it's Video or Word clock but it's clearly labeled. Our's is at another studio right now or i'd check it for you. Whichever it is you need to make sure ALL of your digital gear is clocking from the same master clock source.

Sorry about the confusion. Yes we have two different 192's. The weird thing is I have clocked the Analogue 192 to the same video reference and also clocked to the DMU wordclock out. Still clicks. On the 192 digital clocking the same way, no problem.

hmmm... so, presuambly, these are two spearate PT rigs that you are trying to hook up to the DMU in the machine room. becasue you only need 2 interfaces going into a DMU.

you had the analogue 192 and the DMU both clocked to the same PAL busrt signal, you say? and the AES of the anny 192's were going into the DMU? and this was double checked and correct?

**did you select AES FORMAT in the HARDWARE SETUP DIALOGUE box under DIGITAL FORMAT??**

were the sample rates the same?

you power cycled all machines and sytems?

double checked cables?

does the AES of the anny 192 succesfully interface with other units?

did your djingo eat your veggamite?

Actually the PT rig with the Analogue interface is in the Machine Room. The digital I/O's are in the theatres. The MR is where I get the pops. Everything gets the same clock and I have tried clocking in every available way. But still the one in the MR pops. All cable routing was double checked and is correct. Even put new cables on to try that.
I am going to check going to other gear this morning and see if I can get a loaner interface in case it is the AES card. ...
