Default HD3 Accel 1 x interface Top Accel Card

Just want to Double Check this for accurate Setup on a MacPro and HD3 Accell

- Graphics card is at Bottom of Tower standing up
- Core Card Next in line, above Graphics Card
- Accel #1 Above Core
- Accel #2 Above Accel #1 (At top, tower full)

1 Single 96 i/o should connect to the TOP Accel card, any subsequently added i/o should work their way down, i.e second 96 i/o to the Accel #1 and 3rd 90 i/o to the Core if we wanted to connect all 3 digilink cables directly to cards, rather then each other.

This all right ? or am I backwards somewhere ?

The 96 I/O should be connected to the HD Core Card.

Thanks for your reply. Oddly enough, the only real reason for this post, is that I installed the HD Cards - as described in my OP, (From reading the Mac_Pro_HD_Card_Install_55322.pdf) and when I connect the 96 i/o to the CORE card I get the error.

Quote:
Unable to find an Audio Interface attached to the first HD card. Please check power and Digilink cables. Click OK to rescan.
When I move the only 96 i/o to the TOP Accel card, and click OK - it rescans, and pro-tools opens fine.

With this config. Digi HW test Passes everything, it does not see the 96 i/o when it's attached to the core card either.

Viewing System Usage, it lists the cards in THIS order... is this normal?

- HD Accel #1 PCIe
- HD Accel #2 PCIe
- HD Core #1 PCIe

Core on the Bottom ?

For some reason, I have always had my Digilink cable going to my Accel card instead of my core card and it has been working flawlessly.

I'm currently looking through the manual to see why I did this. I was following the manual when I originally put my system together, so something is telling me that in some cases you connect your interface to the accel card, not the core card. But I could be completely wrong.

Okay, here is something in the Getting Started Guide on Page 32 of my Pro Tools 7.3 guide (some misspelling and etc were corrected).

" 1. If you are using a single 192 I/O, 192 Digital I/O, 96 I/O, or 96i I/O, connect its Primary Port to the HD Core (for PCI) or Accel Core (for PCIe) card with the DigiLink cable provided with the HD Core (for PCI) or Accel Core (for PCIe) card. You must attach at least one [interface] to your system in order for Pro Tools to launch. "

Well, hmmm.... I don't know why I have had it wrong all along. Again, I haven't had any problems. I'm going to power down and switch and see if it works plugged in properly.

Well, weird. When I plug in the Digilink cable to the "correct" card, I get the window, "Unable to find an Audio Interface attached to the first HD card. Please check power and DigiLink cables. Click OK to rescan.

I too have the cards in my Mac Pro like this (top to bottom)

Slot 1 --Blank--
Slot 2 HD Accel
Slot 3 HD Core
Empty (Graphics Card)

Interesting. I have no idea why I have always had my core card in my HD Accel as appose to the HD Core, but it appears to not even work when configured properly.

Thanks Dizzi for doing all of this.

Anyone theorize why both Dizzi and I are having the identical results of interface NOT found connecting to the Core Card (As specified in the Manual) yet our systems are running fine connected to the Accel card ???

I just set up my new Mac Pro with Magma PE6R4-I and I had to to connect my Aurora 16 interface to the last Accel card to get it to work. Had the same error if I connected it to the Core card. When I had the cards in the old machine (Dual G5) I would connect to the Core card. Curious if this is a problem or the way it needs to be in certain situations.

SuperReverb,

What Mac do you have? I wonder if it has anything to do with what Mac Pro we have?
