anyone using 5.1 with os 8.6 & a 9600?

Just wondering if anyone is having sucess with this combo.
I have a 9600 & P.T Pro with Newer G-3 cards and i don't really wanna change os if i dont have to, i'm sure ya'll understand.

also do all your plug-ins work ok?

I'm sure im not the only one who would appreciate any input on this one.

hey,
just installed 5.1 on my 9600/g3 300 newertech card....
so far everything seems cool.
all plugs seem to work.
earlier in the week i went from 8.6.1 to 9.0.4
the system update was also really smooth.
things seem as stable in 9.0.4 as they were in 8.6.1
nice to have the rtas plugs.
so far so good hope this helps....

9600, Newertech G3/300, 8.6.

All is well with 5.1 except...The video gets reeeallly slow when you've got a bunch of plugins and around 32+ tracks. 5.1 allocates a certain (selectable) amount of your CPU for RTAS and even at the minumin settings there is a noticable hit. I've mostly noticed this when looking at the Renaissance Compressor. The VU is barely keeping up with the transients. This is especially true when running some RTAS plugs as well. I'm running at 1280x1024 resolution with the default graphics card that comes with the 9600.

Does anyone have any experience with increasing the video speed in a 9600? Can I replace Apple's graphics card with something else (cheap) to get snappier response, or would this require an entire CPU upgrade? Everything was fine with 5.0.

just blasted over 8.6.1. no clean install.
i did the os upgrade first before 5.1.
been working all day and so far everything seems stable. (shhhh)

Using 9600/G3/400 OS 9.1 and 5.1 and everything seems to be working except for some 1622 weirdness and a couple of plug-ins that aren't working (d3 and some old ones) - but not the ones I really need...

I decided to try PT 5.1 with 8.6 and so far so good but I use mostly Waves and McDSP plugs......9600/G3/Newer466.

I'm happy to report that I loaded 5.1 on my 9500 with newertech G3 card and 8.6 and no problems so far......I mostly do post-production.....12 tracks maybe 4-5 plug-ins with captured video on a miro-motion 30 card....

So based on every1's experience it sounds like the 9600 is ok so long as theres a upgrade card involved

Which leads me to my next question...

Is it worth trying to snap up a G3 upgrade card (newertech) before they dissapear completely... (a machine upgrade is outta the question due to PCI slots etc. etc.)?

And any recommendations as to which one?
Its a 9600/350 with OS 8 at the moment...

Any helps greatly appreciated... thx.

9600/300 without a G3 upgrade, running Mac OS8.6 and just installed 5.1 last week. So far everything is working just fine. No more crashing than before. Plugs all seem to work just fine. &c.
