Cannot get hardware to work on inserts without phase/ comb filtering

Hello all!

I have a hd2 setup with a 96i/o on an intel mac. I've got some great hardware such as an Alan smart c2 etc. But cannot effectively get any of it to play together, except on tracking!

So, here's what we've tried:

internal bounce of the tracks to get a single stereo track. Assigned the outputs to 7&8 (have also tried as a send and as a send on an aux) which are then into the smart. Back out and into pt on 7&8. The resulting recorded track has very apparent phase coherence or comb filtering - the guitars for example sound like they have a phaser pedal on them.

We've had the cables checked and are good. We've searched here and google, checked the pt manual and can't find a solution. If anyone can help/ make a suggestion, I'd be more than happy to test it out!
