Default Partition Commander: Partition Size for XP PRO OS?

HELP: I am using Partition Commander V8 to create new OS partition on my eMachines M6811 laptop for Win XP Pro. For Win XP Pro, what is the recommended size and type of partition that I wish to create? It looks like the default setting (I am using the wizard to set this up) is set to 25340 for Win XP, which I assume is MB?????? It's asking me to select the size and type of partition that I wish to create and right now, I am unfamilar with what size to input.

Jay,

It's basically asking you how you want to carve up your disks. So if you have a 60gig HD then you might want to have two 30gig logical partition, it's really subjective.

It asked me how I want to do it in MB chunks, not GB chunks, so I did it wrong. Is there any way to control how you add an OS partition so that it does not destroy your current settings?

Default Re: Dual Boot

I used the eMachines Restore DVD thinking that it would bring me back to my original out of teh box profile with a fresh install. It did not. I guess my creation of a 25 GB partition went through because I now through my Disk Management, I can see my normal C: at 49.78 GB (NTFS Healthy) and now there is a NEW_OS (D:) drive set up as FAT32 at 24.74 GB (I wanted to make it NTFS NOR FAT32, RIGHT?)

I just reintalled the Partition Commander and I'll try and tidy things up again so I can get this dual boot thing up and running.

Default I\'ll pay you to set-up my laptop in Chicago

The bottom line is that I don't have a clue as to what I am doing. Is there anyone in Chicago that I can PAY to set up this eMachines M6811 laptop so I can actually use the machine and make this catastrophe GO AWAY?

I am trying to establish a dual boot system where the currently existing eMachines profile XP Home bundle is on my C drive and the new partition contains a Win XP Pro set-up so I can use Pro Tools only on this partition without any conflict.

UGGHH.. e-mail me at [email protected] if you are in Chicago, are computer literate, and can help me out.

Jay,

Sorry I can't help you... however, you're on the right track, just make sure you format the drive using NTFS, unless you have plans of porting anything over to a MAC and your audio drive will not be a separate HD.

There are a few things you should do after you install Windows. You should do a search here on the DUC, for words like "tweaks" and you'll see what you need. But basically you're on the right track!!
