Default DIGIDI, please build a field-recorder!?!?

it would be sooooo awesome to have a portable 4 channel HD-recorder from digidesign. one that works for recording in kind of standalone-mode, in postpro transfering data via usb into PT HD within markers and stuff.... with some more nice timecode-options... perhaps m-audio could do that for you.

kind of that one from edirol - the "r4". perhaps more stable and robust; no hybrid connectors; a kind of solo-option and much more...
until christmas comes, you guys could have it ready - i´d presenting one to myself:)

ahmmm, yes!

This has been covered before.

Digi is not going to get into the field recorder market, and they shouldn't. There are enough people in that market already. I actually talked with Scott Wood about this. It would take too much R&D to get into an already saturated market. It's not good business sense for them to do it.

Or they could buy Gallery and make a hardware version of Metacorder....

by the way - what do you guys think of "edirol´s r-4" (http://edirol.com/products/info/r4.html)?
i´ve tested it - so far it was comfortable. as i mentioned not very robust and as i could see without the possibility to hear one of 4 tracks solo.... anyway - compared to a 2-track-DAT it is overall very cool i think.

greets

It was recalled recently because of a phase reverse wiring on one of the input I think.
