Sound Replacer?
HI all,
Has anyone been using Sound Replacer? Will it work on PTLE? Is it worth the bux? It looks really groovy from what I have seen. Also, does anyone have experience with Naked Drums or Reel Drums sessions for Pro Tools? Peace, Geoff |

Re: Sound Replacer?
It's pretting good once you work out a few little tricks (just like anything I suppose). If you record live drums in less than perfect conditions, it's a big help.

I do it pretty much the same way as Rail described. Mix three of the same sample with varying dynamics. The dynamics are in the order of right to left beginning with the hardest hit being BLUE. After duplicating the original track, I replace it by no more than two measures at a time. Hours of editing, but with less concern for alignment. However, when I do have to align I set the nudge to 1 ms/1 sample(using the Shuttle Pro's center dial) and zoom in as far as possible. I then align it by both ear/screen ensuring no phase cancelation (assuming that I'm using both tracks). Tab to transient will get you pretty close but I'm too anal to rely upon it, exclusively. I recently, replaced all drum tracks(12 total) for a 9:30 minute song. Very, laborious. 05/11/03 02:34 AM I would hardly refer to this as an epiphany, but I recently discovered that deselecting Peak Align allows the processed audio to actually maintain its alignment. Obviously, the opposite of what is supposed to happen. I can take, say, a Kick track, duplicate it, then process the entire duplicated track without any drift. Kind of like, driving in reverse to move forward; some work-around. Just thought I would share. |

Re: Sound Replacer?
I replace the whole track all at once...
I use real recorded waves from my own recordings not samples from a drum synth and it works great!!! I leave peak allign checked and it is lined up perfect with the music... I do like to turn the mix fader down to around 60 or 70% so some of the mic bleed through, still stays on the track and it sounds more natural to me...
