I agree with albee on this and choose plug-ins that don't induce latency. If in mixdown I need a plug-in with latency on a track I just nudge it. The bigger issue for me is outboard gear sync.

Pro Tools (AVID) is taking such a beating on this subject I cannot fathom them not giving in soon.

When mixing, those are okay on the master(but I usually leave all master plugins to a separate step in a mastering session). Honestly, the only time I worry about it is when I use Melodyne and I have a simple method for dealing with that that is dead-nuts perfect.
Same thing here on all fronts. At zero latency with almost all of my plugins and loving it (not using too many of my plugins these days anyways.) If not zero latency, ALT-H. Done.

I always create a duplicate playlist called xxx.orig then when Melodyne spots to Pro Tools, re-align them by eye...always works...Sounds like you may have a faster method, Dave?

I am using 0-latency plugins (or maybe near 0-latency, like 4 samples) only on all of my tracks and auxes. There are a lot of those plugins around if you look out for them. Only the master bus might get some higher latency plugins. So I don't have to care about that frakking compensation which drives me so mad it's beyond belief . When recording, I just deactivate all my master bus plugins (if any) without thinking about which of them have actually any latency.

Is Digidesign going to rename RTAS to NRTAS? Latency and Real Time are diametrically opposed terms are they not?
