Default /3GB switch, 7.4 Altiverb 6 and Quicktime

Tried the /3GB switch today with PT 7.4 HD( I have 3 gigs ram) and got constant crashes of protools on loading.(as it got to reading prefs mainly)

I trashed prefs etc etc ..no joy.
After a LONG time of fiddling about removing plugs and putting them back , I narrowed the culprit to Altiverb 6 .
I found a post elsewhere , which implicated quicktime (which altiverb uses) and sure enough it seems to be involved.
I have the latest QT , and just going to its own quicktime player update menu spectacularly crashes it out if running under the /3GB switch .

After a QT crash , protools will not load again till a reboot.

Similarly if Altiverb 6 is in the plugs folder, PT will not load (Im assuming its calling QT)

So it seems that QT and the 3GB switch are not happy bedfellows...

any thoughts from anyone on this Im sure some LE guys are using the switch?...who is using the /3GB switch in PT AND using altiverb 6?

cheers

Hi Bill, what version of Altiverb are you running? There is a known issue with the latest version and PT. I was advised by Audio Ease tech support to revert back to version 6.0.6 - that said, the RTAS version STILL crashed, so I bring it in as a wrapped VST. (this is irrespective of the 3gb switch)

Ive long run Cubase, QT and Altiverb with the 3gb switch applied, but havent had a chance to test Pro Tools.

Id be interested to hear if anyone else has too.

Ah Scott..

interesting info..
Its the very current version of Altiverb 6 (cant check right now, but its downloaded in the last 2 weeks) , but just actually having the rtas plug in the Ptools folder stops Protools loading

I will give the VST wrapped version of altiverb 6 a try and report back

cheers!

Using the /3Gb switch with LE is something I have had on the back burner to look into for some time now. I'd be curious to anyones experience with this and any DAW.
