Default hold Shift and scroll via mouse wheel? (on Mac)

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me where in Pro Tools 7 (for Mac) you adjust the setting / preference to allow the timeline move laterally when you hold down the shift key and roll the mouse roller? I love this function and use it all the time when mixing (as well as the option + roller wheel) but someone has turned it off on a system I use quite often and I can seem to find where to select it again.

Cheers,

Phil J

As far as I know, there is no preference for that, it is the default behaviour.

I'm gunning for a feature request that gives us the option do have default scroll wheel behaviour as either :

Vertical (+ shift = horizontal) as it is now

or

Horizontal (+ shift = vertical)

Ideally this would be accessible from a drop down menu or directly in the edit window (making a short cut key a more reasonable possibility) rather than in the preferences dialogue.

Mind you, my recent feature request wasn't exactly a barnstorming success, but maybe it just got overlooked.

See what you think:

I had problems with certain modifier keys suddenly not working in certain combinations on a PC using a USB keyboard.

Something got corrupted and for the most part, though not all combinations strangely, I lost the use of the "Start" key.

But only for short cuts, it worked in every other respect, and it worked in some key combos.

Perhaps you're experiencing something similar with your "Shift" key not effecting the horizontal scrolling?

Hi, thanks Carl

Somehow it has definitely been turned off... I've checked within Mac preferences, every possible Pro Tools setting, arrgghh! It's the same with LE & HD. I had it defaulting to that on a HD system, someone has disabled it somehow... I use it all the time while making tweaks to a mix with the multi-tool on the fly. I just hate using the arrows at the bottom of the page....

I'll keep looking!

Cheers,

Phil J

Of course you've trashed your prefs?

Hi Phil,

Did you double check Mac System Preferences/Keyboard & Mouse/Mouse....and make sure that at the bottom the "Scrolling" option is set to "Horizontal and Vertical?...Maybe it is deactivated there?

The mighty mouse and the new mac keyboards are really awful in my opinion.
The mighty mouse would be ok if the ball was 3 times the size.

Actually no, that has no bearing either way...

I'll try trashing preferences, so frustrating... something so small. It doesn't really matter. I can set scrolling to continuous - I just really like using Shift > roller wheel to scroll.

Deleted preferences, did some other troubleshooting stuff also (including Disk Warrior), no joy. My home G5 system is totally fine.

It worked on the PT 7.4 HD 2, OS X 10.4.11 system fine, then stopped working after some other freelancers had been on the system. It's a mystery!
