Default simple ilok question!?

Hi everyone
I purchased PT Studio perpetual and upgraded from PT !2 Perpetual.

Apparently I now own PT Studio 2022 and PT 12.

I would like to use PT 12 version on an older computer with a new ilok, same account.
Can I just drag that PT 12 licence from the new PT Bundle to a new ilok?

Many thanks

You purchased a new perpetual license or you purchased an renewal/reinstatement or whatever it's called now?

What is exactly showing on your iLok?

If it's a separate Pro Tools 12 licenses because you purchased an entirely new Studio license you can move it to another iLok.

If it's part of a license bundle because you upgraded using a reinstatement (or whatever it's called now) promotion then you cannot move it seperate from the Studio license. The licenses will be in a bundle and that will be obvious from ILM.

Thanks Darryl, I purchased a renewal upgrade of my PT 12 to PT Studio, so I had to surrender my PT12. Though PT 12 still exists within the PT Studio Bundle. So I cant move my PT 12 to another ilok?

Nope. You can only activate a PT license to one place at a time, like on iLok key or iLok Cloud. (You can see in iLok manager that PT has only 1 activation. You might also see that many, if not most of your other licenses allows 2 activations. PT only 1.)

Your upgraded perpetual PT Studio license allows you to use it on any version of PT, 12 and up. Perpetuals has had that for years, not so with subscription license, they can only be used on the latest version(s).

Thank you, so if in 2 years time I buy a new computer and NEW ilok, I still cant put a new perpetual Pro Tools version on it, coz perpetual versions are only available to people who had a PT Perpetual version in the past and the new perpetual version needs to be a renewal, so from now on its pointless having 2 iloks, unless, because perpetual licences no longer exist, I have one ilok with a perpetual licence on and another with a subscription version on!?

You can still buy perpetual licenses from dealers now (until they run out) but not direct from Avid.

You can buy one now and not deposit it in your Avid account (it's just a code.) When you need the second license, deposit and activate. The clock doesn't start running until you deposit it at my.avid. So you'll get 1 year of updates starting from that day.

But huge warning: do not do anything with that code (just sit on it) until you want to start using the license. Do not enter it at Avid. That's when the clock starts (not when you activate it at iLok)

Really? so I can buy a perpetual licence and register a new ilok and new Avid account and put this on a 2nd computer at a later date anytime?

Yes.

BUT
Once again. DO NOT put that perpetual license code into an Avid account until you are ready to use it. The minute you put it in (even if you haven't put it on an iLok), the time starts counting down for your support period (which is one year and one year of free updates.) The code itself will not expire. So you can hold it as long as you want.

Also, you don't need a second Avid account. You can have more than one Avid license and iLok to the same account. It actually makes it easier if you have more than one computer running Pro Tools because you can shuffle plugin licenses or move Pro Tools licenses between computers/iloks. If you have separate accounts, you will have to pay to do stuff like that.

(I've got accounts with 6+ Pro Tools licenses and 20 iLoks; only reason I have more than one Avid account is my work account verses my personal/private account)
