Upgrade from 7.4le to 9?

Hi,

I had to upgrade osx to 10.6.8 as a necessity. Now my pro tools Le 7.4 doesn't work. Can I upgrade to pro tools 9? I have searched for a long time to find the answer.

The only thing you can officially upgrade to is PT11, which also comes with 10. It's possible that you could buy a used license for 9 from someone off Ebay or something, but with the current $199 sale on upgrades to 11, you should just do that. If your computer OS won't support 11, it might support 10, and you don't have to install 11.

But you will need an Ilok 2 for this.

Also, the upgrades are full installers and you don't need to have 7.4 installed first (uninstall it if you do).

To buy the upgrade, you will need the serial number of your hardware LE interface.

I think you'd be in the same situation with any other DAW that was that old.

Yeah, PT 7 came out in 2005 and 7.4 in 2007, so you are currently using a revision that is 7 years or older. From the Pro Tools minimum system requirements for PT10:

Mac Systems

• Computer: Avid-qualified Apple computer (see details)
• System Software (32 or 64-bit) Mac OS X 10.6.7 (Snow Leopard) through 10.7.4 (Lion)
• Total System RAM: 2GB minimum, 4GB (or more) recommended

Upgrading to 10/11 will run fine on 10.6.8, as you can see (10 will be the version you will want to download and install, but you'll get licenses for both). We all bite the bullet man, staying up to date ain't free.
