WAVES AAX-- You Don't Need an Active WUP Plan!
If your plugins are already updated to Version 9 (any variation of version 9), you DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE A CURRENT WUP PLAN. All you have to do is download the most recent Waves 9 installer and the AAX Waveshell.
Waves are being deliberately vague about this fact. |

Yes, absolutely true. Try it.
I had a Waves Technical Support employee verify it over the phone today. |

I thought that was just the initial release that they then pulled.
Are you saying it's STILL like that? |

Re: WAVES AAX-- You Don't Need an Active WUP Plan!
Here's what I know to be true:
All of my plugs were V9, but my WUP had expired. This week I renewed my WUP for my essential plugins to access the AAX versions. However, when I downloaded and installed the AAX waveshell ALL OF MY PLUGINS worked in PT11. Even the ones not currently covered under WUP. I called Waves to ask whether or not I had needed an active WUP to download and use the AAX format for these plugins. I talked to both a technical support staff and a member of the Sales Staff. The Technical support staff said very plainly: "If you plugins are V9, all you have to do is download the AAX waveshell and your plugins will work in PT11. You do not need an active WUP" The Sales staff was dodgy and said that he was not aware of this functionality and that he could only refer me to the language on their website: "Waves is pleased to announce the long-awaited release of AAX Native plugin support. Waves AAX-compatible plugins are available at no additional charge for all products covered by Waves Update Plan." If you have V9 plugs, but your WUP has expired, I suggest you try it before shelling out the money to renew your WUP like I did. I love Waves plugs and I use them all the time. I've been a longtime customer. But my conversation with the Sales staff today left me feeling manipulated and jerked around, as he wouldn't answer even the most straightforward of questions. If the aax waveshell is truly an "update", I have no problem paying for it. But it doesn't seem that that is what it is. And I do have a problem paying extra for functionality that already existed. Re: WAVES AAX-- You Don't Need an Active WUP Plan!
I hope they do.
I requested that they let me surrender my licenses and give me a refund for the update that I did not need and they refused. And yet they still did not definitively answer whether it is official policy that people with V9 can use the AAX format or whether this is a bug in their coding. If I'm using plugins that I don't have legal licenses for-- I hope they tell me. I hope they tell all of us. |

They're mad because they paid their WUP money unnecessarily!! And rightly so!
