Default What\'s the 2.0 difference...

As one who has a dual 2.0 G5 on order, I wonder what the snag is with it's compatibility. Will PT simply not work at all in a 2.0 yet, or is it just not yet “supported”?

Any insight? Thanks,

Aubrey

If you check the Hot News link you will see that the G5 2 Ghz Mac is scheduled for approval in the phase 2 release expected sometime in the middle of November.

It is currently in test and will not work without a patch release of the PT application.

I don't quite understand the Mix/24 part

quote:
"Supported Configuration Summary

* Computers: Power Mac G5, 1.6 GHz, 1.8 GHz, and 2.0GHz models
* Pro Tools Systems: Pro Tools|24 MIX
* Mac OS: TBD dependent on Apple’s release timeframe for Mac OS X 10.3
* Limitations: MIX I/O, d24 Core, and DSP Farm PCI cards are physically incompatible with PowerMac G5s"

Isn't this a contradiction (1st and last statement)? Is there a planned workaround?

Chassis: Magma 64-bit, 33 MHz chassis (additional chassis support expected in later phase)
Does this mean the 32 bit 4 slot?
"Phases" meaning the 3 phases mentioned or later than that?

The Pro Tools|24MIX Core and MIX Farm cards are expected to be qualified in "Phase 3" for the G5. The MIX I/O, d24 Core (used with some Pro Tools|24MIX systems) and the DSP Farms (used with some Pro Tools|24MIX) are of the older 5 volt variety, and won't even fit into the G5. This information is also in the Hot News statement.

If you're referring to the 4 slot CardBus chassis, that chassis is only qualified with PowerBook G4's.

Yes.

I use it with my G4ti and G4 400 (pci graphics) via:

"MAGMA's patented PCI Expansion Technology is incorporated into a short 'universal' PCI card, extending the PCI Bus outside of your host computer. Our 1 to 1.5 meter flexible cable provides a high-speed communication link from your computer or server to our PCI Expansion System."

So I use both.
Are you saying there will be no confirmed compatibility with G5 in this config?

We do not test the 4 slot expansion chassis with anything but the Powerbooks. This doesn't mean it *won't* work, but that configuration is not qualified by us.
