Using internal SCSI and ATA?
Hey All,
Just wondering if there would be a problem using the internal SCSI bays along with the internal ATA bays. Right now I have A G4(400) with 2 ATA drives and also an external SCSI drive running off of an Adaptec 2940U2W card. Since the SCSI card has an internal connector I had been thinking of adding an internal SCSI drive or two in the provided bays. Would this over tax the power supply? Any other reasons not to do this? Thanks,

Re: Using internal SCSI and ATA?
Hey Mrhappy, power should be fine, althought heat might be an issue. Are you asking about having a total of 3 drives in yer G4? Boot, ide, and a scsi?
You can purchase a pci cooler, which is a fan in a pci slot, or a hard driver cooler, which mounts on the bottom of the drive to keep it cool. http://www.macgurus.com/beta/showram...ngdevices.html Check out this link! sdf |

Re: Using internal SCSI and ATA?
s.d.finley,
Thanks for the reply and the "cool" link! That's what I was talkin' about....boot/ide/scsi. Apple was nice enough to leave a couple of scsi bays/power cables in there so I was feelin' like I should stick something in there! Thanks

Re: Using internal SCSI and ATA?
You can also put a third drive (ATA) internal if you have an open front drive bay(ATAPI bus).
See this post for more info. |
