Default Dolby Atmos andor Aurora 3D in a small theater

I'm looking to upgrade (sound system, projector, DCP…) one of our cinema room. It's a small room (LxWxH_10.2mx9.2mx5.8m) and would like to find out if it's overkill to install the Atmos or Aurora 3D system.

We cater to mostly independents so 99% of our films are still in 5.1.

a) will your clients utilize it? if yes, proceed to be
b) contact the compiles to get the installation requirements
c) price it out
d) mull it over (if c didn't kill you)

Anyone here have installed and first hand experience with this fairly new format ???…Dr.Sound :)

1- Pro and cons between Dolby Atmos and Barco Aurora 3D
2- We installed a QSC sound system in our other theater and was about to go with QSC. The people at Meyer is knocking at our door with some pretty interesting proposition. Anyone care to chime in ? as i don't have any first hand experience with Meyer.

thx

You should talk to Dr Sound - and it's Auro, not Aurora - although the latter does sound good!

You should give these guys a call: http://rotor-film.de/web/en
They worked closely with Dolby to build the first Atmos stage in Germany. The room size is similar to yours and it's a fantastic sounding room, I worked in it.

Check your messages.
PS the Meyers are amazing and QSC is very good too!
The QSC Qsys for monitoring is what we use at "The Dub Stage".

Just for the record: the first Atmos stage in Germany was opened at studio Post Republic in 2012. http://post-republic.com/services/soundmix and the first German Atmos film was mixed there.

to the OP: ask yourself how many of your usual clients have the budget to mix in Atmos or Auro. Then if they have the budget would they go to a very small room to mix this format or would they rather do it in a decently sized room.

you are entering a vey small market especially if your main segment is festival and indie films. check if these festivals even play atmos or auro films. ask your clients if they'd be interested in atmos or auro. might help make the decision.
it's still a bit of a chicken and egg situation

frank.
