Default Newbe monitoring

Hello,
I have an audio file i imported into a track.
I have my guitar hooked up to track inputing to input 3-4
I have both outputing to 1-2
If I hit the record enabe I can monitor the guitar
BUT if I hi play, I can hear the song and not the guitar anymore.
What am I doing wrong?

Input Monitoring. (ALT+K) is what you're looking for.
