Default Retrieving files written in PT on a Mac on a PC

I have a friend whose Mac I used to hook my Digi002 up to and make music.Family situation on his part dictated a change in plans, and I now have my Digi002 hooked up to my PC.I bought a Maxtor 250 gigabtye firewire/usb 2.0 portable hardrive to offload onto.In the owner's manual, the Maxtor says it's formatted at the factory to Fat32,which a Mac can read.I hook up to my friend's Mac,and copy the files onto the hd.One of the sessions loads fully because I checked 'enforce mac/pc compatability'before I ever began recording. The rest show up as a bunch of icon files for where the SDII's were and I figure out I messed up in not checking "Enforce Mac/PC compatability"when I first created them.Plan B:I use the "save session copy in" command and save my sessions to the Maxtor while hooked into the Mac.Only this time,my friend's Mac will not recognize the Maxtor as a 'valid recording volume".I call tech support.Tech person is very nice, has me reformat Maxtor to Mac format and assures me they will read on the PC,and now I copy the PT files to the Maxtor. Now I plug in the Maxtor to my PC back home, and it will not read. Will not even show up on the OS.Why?Because it was formatted to Mac,I reason. So,I call tech support again:)Support person says I need to hook up to my friend's Mac and partition the first 32 gig to Fat32 and then the rest to the Mac format for direct recording.......
What I really need to know is:without buying Mac Opener,is there a solution to this problem?(Ie,besides bouncing each indididual file over on a CD,that is last resort:)The objective is:1)Get the files copied from friend's Mac onto Maxtor (Hard Drive)and from there to my PC to mix an album and eat:)Then,I figure on selling the pc and buying a Mac:)....The tech support person I spoke to the second time was not very helpful and was quite a jerk about it,and I just need straight talk without a lecture.Your assistance greatly appreciated....Questions welcome

a) You need MacDrive5 from MediaFour (and not MacOpener) for working with Mac formatted FireWire drives. I highly recommend the app and there's a demo you can use.

b) Tech Support gave you bad advise.. you just needed to change the drive in the Workspace Window to be a Transfer drive and you should have been able to save the session as Mac/PC compatible directly to the FAT32 drive.

Demo=music to my ears, seeing as my friend lives an hour away, and this is (more than likely)a one shot deal, since I'll be going Mac.Where can I download the demo?

If the drive is formatted FAT32 it can read/write on both Mac and PC platforms. Do a "Save session copy in" and enforce Mac/PC compatibility, saving to your FAT32 formatted drive.
