Default Upgrading from 7.4 to 8 today.

I am currently downloading my MP V8 upgrade right now. I currently have 7.4.

Do I need to uninstall 7.4 first, or can I just run this new installer as is?

Yes. You need to uninstall 7.4. It'll come with the installation directions in the download.

I actually didn't get any directions in my download. But sometimes is wrong with my .exe install as well. I'm going to try downloading again.

I hate that I'm already experiencing troubles.

I'm also taking the opportunity to upgrade XP to SP3 and get the latest SP3 driver for my 1814FW.

well, upgrade finished, and so far, looks good. they really did a good job with this release. i was expecting errors and lockups and disappearing Pro Tools screens like crazy, but it's been well.

After the intital installation though, I started a session, starting EZdrummer plugin. and EZD wasn't responding... so i'm thinking, oh jeez, then i figured I'll try another plug and see what happens. I loaded Digi's new organ plugin and Pro Tools closed/disappeared.

I took a breath, restarted, and it's been fine ever since.

So to anyone upgrading... after your install is complete, restart one last time. avoid the cold sweats that I momentarily got.

Hello, do you still have your PT 7.4 auth on your ilok or only the new PT8 ?
I want to know if i can open PT 7.X after the upgrade.
Thank you.

1. PT does not use an iLok auth. You simply enter your authorization code that begins with 'DIGI'.

2. You cannot keep more than one version of PT installed on a machine. Before you install PT 8, you must uninstall PT 7.x.

Of course i've got ilok auth with my MPowered !
I've seen the post on Mpowered device that's why i ask for you,
if someone can tell me...i just not want to be alone in the dark with my brand new software and a blue screen.

Is the 7.x ilok auth surrender when doing the pt8 upgrade ?
Thank you.

M-Powered most definitely uses an iLok

regarding the disappearing PT, did you instal BFD lite? that seemed to effect all my plugins, causing the crash. I uninstalled it and I'm all good.

no, didn't install BFD lite. I had BFD 1.5 and I always hated it, so I didn't bother. the disappearing PT thing only happened once, knock on wood, so I'm going to just call it a fluke.
