Re: scsi hard drive for 9600
If you want an external SCSI drive for the 9600, you'll need an accelerator card. The 9600's external SCSI bus is only SCSI-1, which has a maximum transfer rate of about 5 meg/second. I doubt you'll get more than 10 to 12 tracks before choking down.
The internal SCSI bus on the 9600 is SCSI-2. That runs about 10 meg/ second. You may want to consider installing an internal drive. Accelerator cards. It appears that the only card Digidesign likes is the Atto. I just installed an 9.1 gig Seagate Barracuda on the internal SCSI bus of my 9600. This is in addition to the factory installed 4 gig internal. Installation was not a big problem. (If you're comfortable with that sort of thing.) The drive works fine with Pro Tools LE. |
