Problems monitoring 5.1 with optical

I was wondering how to setup the digital output (optical-spdif) on my 192i/o to my denon home theater receiver. I have the Digicore HW setup to use spdif and one 5.1 track with digital all output 1-6. The Denon sees the digital in but no audio is coming out. When i take the cord and put in my Mac digtal output or XBOX i get 5.1 no problem so i think my Denon is setup correctly.

Hope this makes sense.

I believe that you need to set the optical output to ADAT to get the 8 channel out optical. spdif will be 2 channel.

yeah tried the optical and still no go.
Has anyone got the optical out to work with a consumer receiver?
I am using a Denon AVR-591 and Pro Tools still giving me fits.

You need to have an AC-3 data stream from PT, not PCM (stereo) audio. PT does not do that encode without a 3rd party plugin (Neyrinck or Minnetonka are both well known).

There are very limited options available to do this. There are no AC3 realtime encoding options available to do this. However, you can do realtime LtRt encoding to stereo and use the Pro Logic 2 decoder in the Denon system. Pro Logic 2 decoding is not a discrete encoding technology so there are tradeoffs.
