Default Pro Tools Public Beta: December 2022

Hi everyone,

Towards the end of this month, Avid will release the next full version of Pro Tools, and it will include a public beta that enables Pro Tools to run it natively on Apple M1 and M2 processors.

The plan is to deliver an official and qualified native Apple silicon-supported version in early 2023, but because we now have the core Pro Tools app working natively, we decided to give early adopters the chance to run it in a public beta. This way if users choose, they can test the improved performance on their M1/M2 machines before the fully native version gets released in early 2023.

For M1/M2 users who choose to toggle-on the public beta, some features and plugins will become unavailable. We are also working with all our 3rd party partners to get their silicon compatibility completed as quickly as possible. A full list will be made available upon its release later in December.

This full December release will be available for all Pro Tools customers on an active subscription or running a perpetual license with a current Software Updates + Support Plan. Users of our free version, Pro Tools Intro, will also be able to test the public beta.

Stay tuned... More info to come.

Hey Chris, excited to run the beta. Hope the team considers more public betas for future releases!

Hi Chris,

Great news on the announcement. Maybe it would be a good idea to create an Apple Silicon section to the DUC?

We're going to create a separate Link Lounge for it, and I'm weighing in my head whether to create one here too. Unsure if I will, but I'm considering it.

Separating feedback across many different places gets hard to track internally sometimes... and the Link Lounge benefits our abilities internally because in order to post to the Lounges, you need to be signed-in as your MyAvid account... which makes it SOO much easier for the Community team to create support cases based on user feedback.

Is there a way to access the Link Lounge via browser? I really don't care for Avid Link in general (and I don't think I'm alone in that opinion) and uninstall it after every install or upgrade. I would be happy to post there if I didn't have to use Link.

Here, here! If we could access Link Lounge via a browser, I suspect you'll get much more feedback on it.

I don't want to side-track this thread into one about Link... but yes, know that it is indeed in the roadmap to access the Avid Link Lounges via a browser. We're working on that one.
