Adjusting midi velocity
Hi!
If I adjust 2 midi notes velocities together (a chord), one will get much louder than the other as I adjust them. Is there a way to fix that? It's a terrible way to edit. They should incrementally adjust. Surely Avid has another default setting? |

Re: Adjusting midi velocity
Are you using the key commands to increment the Velocities by 5 or 15? If you grab them and drag up or down, it will scale them, which is problematic if one note is way softer than the other.
Increase velocity by Five Command+Up Arrow - Mac Control+Up Arrow - Windows Decrease velocity by Five Command+Down Arrow - Mac Control+Down Arrow - Windows Increase velocity by Fifteen Command+Shift+Up Arrow - Mac Control+Shift+Up Arrow - Windows Decrease velocity by Fifteen Command+Shift+Down Arrow - Mac Control+Shift+Down Arrow Windows

Re: Adjusting midi velocity
Wow thanks for the tips! I'll use these.
Yeah I'm grabbing them. It's not just when the notes have a big difference. Even if the notes are quite similar in velocity, they scale way too differently. If there's not a better default, Avid needs to fix |

Re: Adjusting midi velocity
I change note velocity by right-clicking on the note(s) and using the 'change velocity' entry in the popup list and then using one of the options there. More precise than anything else.

It still doesn't fix Avid's glitch that two notes will adjust way too differently when done together |

It allows you to compress and expand the velocities of selected notes and I use it all the time in this way. For example, let’s say you have a chord and some notes are too loud and some too soft, it allows you to compress the velocities closer together. Or maybe you have a melody line and some notes are too loud or soft, again you can compress the velocity range. If you want to simply add or subtract velocity values, there are some keyboard commands as massivekerry mentioned above. Also you can do it in Velocity Event Operations.

Re: Adjusting midi velocity
Or, edit the velocity on each note itself with the Ctrl key(that's for Windows. I think its Cmd on a Mac). This might work on a cluster of notes if you draw a box around the notes you want to adjust, but I've never tried that
