Default Multi-band Compressor Recommendations

I have read good things about McDSP's MC2000. Are there any others that you are using you might recommend over the MC2000, and why? Additionally, I see that I can get the MC2000 for just under $500, but I could get it packaged with the McDSP Classic Pack for just under $1400. So my other question is...are the additional plug-ins that come with the Classic Pack worth the investment, over the channel EQ's and the free plug-ins I received with my DSP Engine card upgrade (Venue Pack Pro 2.0). Immediately I need the Multi-band compressor, the others I might enjoy, but I have some good comps/EQ's already. Thoughts?

I used to use the MC2000 quite a bit on vocals. However, I've replaced it with the Serato Dynamics plug because I like the dynamic EQ a bit better over what I was doing with the MC2000. But I still go to the MC2000 at times, and I've heard good things about the MCDSP ML4000, although I've never used it.

The classic pack is good. But if you're going to get a bundle from MCDSP, I would recommend you get one that has Channel G in it.

If you are open to buying a suite of plugs...consider the Waves Live Bundle. It is pricey, but the C4 is a great multi band and you get lots of other good plugins, plus a Platinum bundle license is included for crossover into ProTools.

THe ML4000 is about the best plugin I have EVER used for this sort of thing.

I own MC 2000, C4, and ML4000 in my HD Studio rig. I believe the ML4000 has a bit too much latency for live. MC2000 works just fine and I recommend it, but I must admit I generally end up using Waves C4 because I find it quicker to tweak. . . Multi-band comps are great on live vocals!

I would stick with the channel's EQ for live unless you have everything else covered to the nth degree.

Thanks for the input. I'll be purchasing soon. On my budget, I can't get the Waves Bundle, so unless some knows how I can get the C4 un-bundled I'll likely go with the Mc2000.

According to the webinar yesterday...any plugin on TDM PC platform will work. Is there someone from Digidesign that could confirm installing Waves C4 by itself under windows xp embedded will work with Venue?

I don't think that would work, but if it did it would open up a LOT of Waves plugins like the SSL stuff which would be very nice...

Hi guys,

The Waves stuff is different in that they run their own "shell" environment, which their suite of plug-ins then run in. The only fully tested Waves shell for VENUE is the one included with their Live bundle (which includes the C4), which Waves did some re-engineering on specifically for reliable use on VENUE.

I am a user and believer in the McDsp stuff. I am using multiples of a 2 band, 3 band and 4 band multi band comps. As well as Analogue Channel and couple out of the classic comps. I dont think you can go wrong with either Classic Pack or Emerald Pack.
