horrible digital static or "feedback" sound
PT 8
original Mbox G4 laptop 10.5.7 the mbox previously worked fine with 7.3 Did an uninstall from that disk before putting in PT 8. now there is a large nasty feedback on channel 2 swapped all cables, swapped mics, and even USB cable Problem remains on channel 2 - it is internal to the Mbox or internal to PT. trashed prefs etc there are no plugs there no sends no SPDIF connected channels match in every visible way except input channels just two 'plain' tracks trying to record. the track will be quiet but once a certain moderate volume is exceeded it starts to crackle - very "digitally" Sometimes the static will sustain as if feeding back then a thump on the mic will often get it to stop. Another thump and it starts feeding back again. Triple checked all my I/O settings, internal clock etc. Even reinstalled PT. Trashed the prefs again. Repaired permissions on the system disk. I tried borrowing an Mbox2 from my school but that seems to be tied to an Academic Version of the software and PT won't launch. I am running out of guesses and things to try. |

Re: horrible digital static or "feedback" sound
Try another USB port and make sure you don't share it with anything else.
I had something similar on PC few years ago and it turned out that the USB port was not offering enough electrical power. Hope you sort it out. Antonis |

Re: horrible digital static or "feedback" sound
I posted here by mistake
my setup is on a mac laptop I did try the other USB jack but it was the same cycling the phantom will trigger the static, but so will any level on the mic or plugging the cable in and out etc. I tried the firmware thing, but I already have the 'latest' version |

Re: horrible digital static or "feedback" sound
Have you tried a powered USB hub? And make sure your Mbox is the ONLY thing plugged into the hub. I have seen this happen when there isn't enough current on the USB port, and oddly enough, I've seen it more frequently with MACs than with PCs.
