Quite possibly ... offset all the negativity with some 'good news'.

Maybe 12.2 will address a good portion of expected questions e.g. when will track freeze arrive (quite possibly with the launch of the Everywhere features)?

This could in turn be used as evidence of the benefits of recurring payments (subscriptions of uninterrupted 'support'), the other likely source of negativity ... there you go, over amonth to go and all covered :)

my expectations in avid are very low so i'm guessing that track freeze may be directly tied to cloud collaboration which avid knows will go over like an anvil. basically 'pay us for the cloud and you have track freeze, don't pay us and no track freeze'.

i don't know if the delay is more of a technical nature or just avid trying to avoid or at least delay a mutiny. i hope i'm wrong though and that there will be no tie between the cloud and track freeze but i don't really see avid making such an investment in infrastructure but saying 'use it if you want and don't use it if you don't want to'.

i'm not sure what avid is ultimately up to but i'm on PT11 and if you had told me 5 years ago that avid would release a new version of PT and i still wouldn't have upgraded after several months i would have told you you're crazy. i've upgraded every version of PT since '96. now it's a reality and at this point i have no idea if i will be upgrading at the end of the year. studio one 3 is definitely on my shopping list though.

i don't know who the new avid is for but so far it seems it's not for me.

regards,
marco

But wait! According to the email Avid sent "We apologize for the wait—but it will be worth it! " and "You’ll get the chance to ask the Avid team all of your Pro Tools 12 questions, learn about available upgrade options for Pro Tools and Pro Tools | HD, and hear about exciting new additions coming soon to Pro Tools."

Ahh those lovely words "coming soon." How long is "coming soon?" We're just about 4 1/2 months since PT 12 initial release on March 23 (130 days to be precise). If you upgraded your PT 12 HD license on launch day for the tidy sum of $599 that'd mean so far you've spent $213 on... that's right... on "coming soon!" Alternatively you could light your money on fire, at least that way you'd get some HEAT for your money (pun intended). Enjoy!

Is this the one that was supposed to be August 5th in conjunction with PTE?

Why would anyone on PTHD11 have done this? Avid even told its HD customers NOT to do this. They told them to wait, that they had til the end of 2015 to "upgrade". And if you were a PTHD10 user and paid $599, then you got 12 for $599, which is certainly less than the the previous cycle's $1500 upgrade cost.

Or am I missing something?

What I'm waiting for is the spin Russ and company will put on this in next Tuesday's podcast. Don't know if it's my imagination or not but it seems like that in the last couple of podcasts PTE have become Avid apologists or at least they're not savaging it like they used to. I know Jivey is still on PTHD11.3.1; not sure about the others.
