Default Possible MIDI countoff bug?

Every so often I've made a MIDI recording and found some very short notes have appeared at the start of the recording. These are one tick long and shouldn't be there.

I've seen mention of something like this before on the DUC. There was talk of double notes being recorded on the first beat of the recording.

I think this might be a bug. The following is easily reproducible here:

1. Enable a one bar count off.
2. Go into record and during the countoff, play some notes.
3. Stop playing before the countoff ends and recording starts.
4. Hit stop after recording has started (once the countoff has ended.)

When you press stop, you will find whatever notes you played during the countoff appear on the first tick of the recording if input quantize is switched on and a little after if it is switched off. At least I do every time I try!!! This is with ADC on, it doesn't seem to happen with it off.

Can anyone reproduce this?

It's extremely unlikely to be a bug. Most likely you have a controller that has multiple zones enabled.

Can you tell us which controller you're using and can you verify that it is only sending on one zone and one MIDI channel assigned to that zone?

Yeah, I know!!! Only 3 in 100 actually turns out to be a bug!!!

Controller is a Keystation Pro 88 and it's definitely only sending out on one zone. That cropped up when this was mentioned before on the DUC.

Let's say I'm recording at bar 5, Input Quantize is on and ADC on.

Countoff is set to one bar of 4/4. During the countoff I hit C3 on the third beat.

The countoff ends, recording starts and I hit G3 on the first beat of bar five.

Then I stop recording. The G3 is there, quantized to beat one of bar 5 but the C3 I hit on the third beat of the countoff is also in the first beat of bar 5 and it's only one tick long!!!

In other words, whatever I play during the countoff is getting recorded and ending up on the first tick of the recording region with a note length of one tick.

What tempo is your session at?

I *do* know we take into account some 'slop' with MIDI recording - anything happening within (I think) 200ms of the first recording bar will be accepted as a valid note but your case doesn't seem like it should apply if you're hitting it on the 3rd beat of the countoff - unless you have a really fast tempo....

Tempo is 75 bpm.

I've just set the countoff to be two bars long, put the curser at bar 5 and hit record.

On the 1st beat of the 2nd bar of the countoff, I start playing a 16th note scale that ends a 16th note before bar 5. When I stop recording, EVERY note of that scale I played during the second bar of the countoff is appearing on the first beat of bar 5 with a length of one tick! It's happening every time. Loop Play and MIDI Merge are turned on BTW.

I see the problem and it looks like a bug.

Use pre/post roll for now instead of countoff - I could only repro with countoff enabled. Not ideal, but maybe usable.

I'll get this logged asap.

Thanks for looking at this DTS.

It's easy enough to work around.

This is another bug that has not been fixed and made it into version 10.

Not happy!
